McParlane & Associates, Inc. is headquartered in San Diego, CA and directed by three Principals; Paul McParlane, John McGee, and Douglas Isaaks who all share a common commitment to our core values of service and quality. Since our founding in 1990, we have built a reputation for exceptional, precise service in extremely time-sensitive environments which led to our Orange County expansion managed by Javier Ares and subsequent licensures in over 10 states.
Our team brings a wealth of skills, values, and expertise to each project with our unique approach that draws on over 30 years of experience. Principal level involvement helps ensure the best qualified individuals are integrated into the design process ensuring responsive, high-quality engineering.

Paul McParlane, P.E.
Principal
Since receiving his BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1983, Paul has been involved in the design and construction of over 20 million square feet of facilities, including over 2,500 projects in the past 25 years. In 1990, Paul and John McGee formed McParlane & Associates with the focus to become the leading provider of mechanical engineering services in the region. Paul practices a simple work philosophy: to have a desire to exceed our client’s expectations, to be responsive, and to perform with integrity. Paul leads by example and he is passionate to educate the staff. He teaches his engineers technical and leadership skills that empower them to take an initiative to overcome design challenges and to communicate with the design team to produce a cost-effective product. Paul has dedicated the past 9 years to mentor the youth of San Diego through the Architectural Construction Engineering (ACE) Mentor Program. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board for the San Diego ACE Affiliate. Through his enthusiasm and his commitment to the industry he loves, he has helped thousands of high school students to develop an aptitude for the architectural, construction and engineering industry.
John McGee
Principal
John has been involved with HVAC design and the construction industry since 1983. His focus is to deliver innovative solutions and hands-on operational attention to all projects whether large or small. John’s commitment to produce a cost-effective product utilizing his experience with applicable codes, design practices, and construction engineering standards for mechanical and plumbing systems, construction management, facility planning, and mechanical design develop optimally performing projects. His interest in sustainable design has lead John to his LEED professional accreditation. Through his leadership and guidance, the team produces innovative designs within the community.
Doug Isaaks, P.E.
Principal
Doug’s dedication to our clients is seen throughout his projects. His determination to produce the best cost-effective product is exemplified by his leadership to exceed our client’s expectations. Doug’s focus is to secure knowledge to deliver design solutions for the demanding and complex engineering and construction industry. His knowledge of applicable codes, design practices, and construction standards for mechanical and plumbing systems have enabled him to successfully manage federal, state, and municipal jurisdiction projects from predesign through construction completion.
JAVIER ARES

Javier Ares has been involved with the construction industry as a mechanical engineer since 2007 and has been employed with MPA since June of 2007. Javier has developed a working knowledge of applicable codes, design practices and construction standards for mechanical systems. Javier is a dedicated individual, who is constantly searching for new knowledge by attending seminars, completing various certifications programs such as HVAC system design, calculations at UCSD extension, technical development program – HVAC systems, and REVIT 3D modeling design. Javier has designed heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigerant piping, and ductwork systems, including central plant and distribution systems.

Mission statement
Our mission is to exceed client expectations utilizing our experience and expertise to offer technically advanced and cost-effective design solutions. We communicate clearly and concisely with both clients and colleagues. We provide accurate engineering as well as client satisfaction through strict document control. Our work environment promotes personal growth through education and accountability.
APPROACH
Each project is overseen by one of our Principals from the initial design phase to project completion. Our goal as we enter into design commencement is to understand the owner’s requirements and budget constraints to seek out optimum value for both initial and long-term investment. Value, quality, sustainability, functionality and life expectancy are the key components to determine optimal solutions that will best meet the needs of our clients.
Our proactive approach and hands on philosophy means that our most senior engineers are directly involved in all aspects of the project including hands-on construction support. We work closely with the architectural team to ensure our designs seamlessly integrate and complement the building architecture. We provide sophisticated and aesthetically pleasing solutions to difficult challenges while maintaining a superior level of flexibility to accommodate potential modifications in the future.
